Week one...done!

Well...we've been here a week. Here are our thoughts about Singapore so far. Adam likes that it's a new experience every time we leave the house. Luke told me he likes that he gets to go to school, he can wear shorts everyday, he gets to ride his bike and he swims a lot. I love that I don't ever have to worry about the time it takes me to get ready. The humidity has given me a permanent pony tail. I also love living and experiencing a totally new culture. The people are so kind and welcoming.

Some things we find interesting: this is by far, the cleanest place we've ever seen. Yet, it's hard to find a trash can anywhere. Speedos are the norm at the pool (and some leave little to the imagination...yikes!). Men & Women love the boys. It's common for someone to rub their heads or comment on their eyes almost every place we go. Many try to hold Drew and give Luke high-fives. For a self-proclaimed technologically advanced place, none of their systems are updated with our information "until the following Monday." And finally...it kills me that in this humidity, I see people in pants and sweaters. There is no way anyone can convince me that they're comfortable like that.

What we could do without: the cost of things (you can never really comprehend how expensive it is until you live it) and the humidity. We wouldn't say we hate the weather, but we certainly don't looooove it. It's true what they say too - the humidity is definitely the highest in the morning (90%), getting to it's lowest in the late afternoon/evening (it was down to 62% at 3pm). I asked Luke what he didn't really like so far and he said, "Well...I don't really like the rain." That made us laugh considering we're having our first rain of the week (and it's only been raining for 5 minutes). Drew seems to be having the hardest time transitioning. He's had his little world turned upside down since we packed our house up in June. Today was tough for him. The humidity made him overly hot this afternoon (it's HARD to get the kid to drink a lot of water) and he hasn't been sleeping as well. I've heard from other moms that night terrors are common for the little guys and that they do take the longest to adjust. Not only are we living in a different country, but he's still getting over the flight and the 15 hour time difference. He'll get there...we all will. It's been a great week but an exhausting week. We hope next week gives us some time to relax and breathe before school starts. Feeling thankful we are in the place we are and we're together...
