Oh Singapore!

I know I posted some bizarre things about Singapore last year, but I thought it was time to revisit it. If they were mentioned last year, I have forgotten, but clearly they are bizarre enough to mention again. Here are some things that surprise us or we find very strange about life on the little red dot....

- Seeing toddlers sitting and moving about freely in cars (no car seat laws)

- Packages being delivered at 9pm on a Sunday night

-McDonald's delivery on the back of motorcycles

-Local men carrying their wives/girlfriends purse everywhere

-Being charged for using the napkins at some restaurants

-Having a waitress deliver Nacho Cheese Doritos at a Chinese restaurant then charging us for eating them

-Moving the remote control only to have a gecko run out from underneath

-Not being allowed to get off a lift or MRT because people are cramming their way on (while not bizarre, it IS irritating as hell)

-Seeing people over 70 working 12+ hours a day (I hate this.)

-Waiters looking completely baffled when you ask them to "split the bill"

-Pizza places not allowing a pizza to be made ½ cheese, ½ no cheese (by far Adam's biggest annoyance since living here)

-Taxi drivers asking US for directions

-Taxi drivers pulling over to ask where you're going without ever fully stopping the car

-The fact that you're not supposed to flush toilet paper in public places. It all goes in a bin next to the toilet. Ewwww!

-Never being able to find/use paper towels in public restrooms

-Long pinkie nails on most men

-The whole concept of having a helper

-Street signs to alert people that a crime has been committed "Warning: Pick Pocketing here on..."

-Getting scolded by a taxi driver for talking too fast (His problem is listening too slow)

-Instead of an explanation as to why they can't do something, you just get a repeated, "Can't Lah"

-Being told by a nurse that she couldn't figure out who I had talked to on the phone an hour prior. There were only 2 nurses working that day.

-The fact that you could open a pharmacy after leaving a doctor's appointment

-Asking a waiter if the restaurant is open to get, "Yes. We open. Can you come back in 20 minutes?"

-Not having hot water in our kitchen

-Seeing a man get hit by a car, lie next to the curb and wait for 20 minutes before an ambulance finally arrives

-Ambulances stopping at red lights AND waiting until the light turns green to go

-Having to run and grab our clothes off the balcony when the heavy rains suddenly hit

There's more...but I'll stop for now. Drew is about to "problem solve"....
